As part of its campaign, “This is my story, I am still human”, the Universal Coalition of Affirming Africans (UCAA) Uganda has launched this interview with Maama Annet, an openly transgender person who is the leader of the Talented Youth Community Fellowship in Uganda, an inclusive faith-based ministry led by black transgender women helping LGBTQ+ folks in their quest for faith.

In this moving interview, Maama Annet speaks about her experiences as an openly trans and a religious leader in a country where gender non-conformity is highly controversial, and states:

We started our own fellowship, because we were discriminated against in other churches. So, we tried our level best to connect back to God and to create a space in which we can be safe and comfortable.

The Universal Coalition of Affirming Africans (UCAA) Uganda is a partner in the SERENE project. It’s current campaign “This is my story, I am still human” aims to provide insight into the lives of LGBTQ+ Ugandans in order to enhance understanding, recognition, and inclusion. Please read more here, and watch the interview with Maama Annet below.
