Alfred is gay and Catholic and started his own prayer group
As part of its campaign, “This is my story, I am still human”, the Universal Coalition of Affirming Africans (UCAA) Uganda has launched this interview with Alfred, a gay man and leader of a Catholic charismatic prayer group.
When Alfred was kicked out his traditional Catholic parish for being gay, he did not want to loose touch with the Catholic faith. So, he then decided to start a prayer group retaining the Catholic church's beliefs but more charismatic. Alfred's intention was to create space for the downtrodden to feel welcomed. His prayer group has over 500 members at the moment, he says. As one way of giving back to his community, Alfred provides shelter and feeds more than 100 people including women usually victims of domestic violence, needy children and homeless LGBTQ+ people at his home.
