Pastor Derin about being transgender in Uganda

Interview
Date

As part of its campaign, “This is my story, I am still human”, the Universal Coalition of Affirming Africans (UCAA) has launched this interview with Pastoral Deron Sheri. She is a transgender woman and  a pastor at one of the LGBTQ+ inclusive fellowship spaces within the capital of Uganda.

Sheri is a victim of transphobia, she was violently attacked and was hospitalised for a month prior to her coming out.  Sheri's  transgender friend Sheila later, helped her to get back on her feet, walked the walk with her and got encouraged  to come out. Sheri is now confident, strong and at peace with who she is regardless of the undeniable challenges. Sheri is calling upon parents and religious leaders to encourage their children to be their true authentic rather than forcing them to be who they are not.
